History: I’ve had MS for 27 years and must use a walker. My
left side is worse than my right side.
I could walk a short
distance and then had to rest before continuing. My legs felt heavy to move. I
walked very slowly. Both feet dragged, with the left being worse. My left foot
often caught on the pavement forcing me to stop. With great difficulty I would
resume walking. This pattern was repeated over and over. This was extremely
frustrating. Fatigued and embarrassed I would wait and let other people pass
by.
I had to manually lift both
legs into the car.
Implant procedure date: Monday, May 21, 2007

I noticed a difference with my legs, but wondered if it was my imagination. But
on Friday, May 25th the improvement was amazing! Neither of my feet
dragged and my legs felt much lighter, like feathers. I didn’t have to
concentrate on walking to prevent the sudden catch on the pavement. I walked
much faster, too.
I was able to get my legs in
the car without assistance.

No additional improvements
as of today. I exercise at home daily and enjoy the new walking experience. I
am able to climb stairs easier (stair climbing is one portion of my exercise
routine) and I have increased the number. I have more energy. People notice and
comment that my walking seems improved and I tell them about the implant. The
nurse at the doctor’s office gave me a big hug because she is proud of me!
When fatigued, I have to assist
my left leg into the car.
I start physical therapy on
June 12th with the same therapist I’ve worked with several times.
I’m confident he will notice the “new me”.
Thank you for everything!
Sincerely,
Cathy Zuker
